THE MOST DELICIOUS FRENCH TOAST

Who else is a huge breakfast fan like me? I think I alreadt talked about it in another post but breakfast makes me sooo happy. Besides, this specific breakfast is unbelievably delicious. French toast is so amazing and soft, this recipe is the best you will try I promise. I’ve had these recipe in mind for a couple of weeks now.

I believe the best way to pamper anyone is making them a huge and delicious breakfast. Wether it is a gorgeous table with balloons and flowers, or breakfast in bed, anything really. The tradition in my house for ny special day like Mother’s day, Father’s day or any birthday is with a breakfast table with that person’s favorite foods. Let’s sat it’s mother’s day, we got everything my mom loves, croissants, pastries, anything sweet and fluffy. But, for my dad’s day, we got bacon and made scrambled eggs and sandwiches.

THE PARTS OF GOOD FRENCH TOAST:

French toast is not made up of too many ingredients. Few ingredients, a couple of steps and you get the most delicious breakfast ever.

Starting off with the bread. Well, to be honest, you can make it with any type of bread really. I do recommend you find a brioche loaf. So, why brioche? It’s a very sof bread and it absorb the moisture so fast.

French toast consists in covering the bread is a mixture of eggs and milk basically. You season it with whatever you like and cook it on a skillet like you would a pancake.

Once everything is cooked, serve it with honey and fruits, syrup, chocolate, what you want! A perfectly complete and delicious breakfast.

TOPPINGS:

I love sharing with you the toppings or combinations I like to do and eat in these type of recipes. Tell me what you think about them! Also, I would love to know what are your favorite combinations or flavors and toppings so I can try them myself!

The classic: The classic french toast for me is a big piece of butter and a lot of syrup. Nothing else. I think this brings out the flavro of the french toast and maple syrup is just delicious.

Fruits: This is such a versatile recipe, you can any type of fruit and it will taste amazing. I believe the classi fruit combination is strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. You can add them fresh or cook them a bit with some sugar en water to make kind of a sauce.

Chocolate: Ooookay let’s talk about chocolate. You can stuff the french toast with chocolate. When you do this, and cut bit to eat the french toast is like having a pool of melted chocolate inside. You can add chocolate chips to the egg mixture before cooking like a pancake. Aaaand, you can just cook it by itself and add the chocolate on top qith some sauce, chips, anything chocolate-y.

TIPS FOR PERFECT FRENCH TOAST:

The bread: There are a lot of different types of bread that you can use for this recipe. I personally LOVED the brioche. Since it is already a soft, buttery bread, add the egg mixture and some honey or syrup once its cooked and it melts in you mouth. The shape of the bread is not that important. This just affects the final look of the dish, not the flavor. So, if you find a round brioche or a smaller one, don’t worry. Slice it thick and cook it the same way!

Cooking it: French toast is cooked on skillet with a bit of melted butter, just like pancakes. After every slice, specially if it’s a thick slice of bread, add more butter. Aside from avoiding sticking, it gives the toast more flavor.

How much time do I leave it in the egg mixture?: Since we are using such a soft bread, with a couple of minutes on each side, it’s enough. You want your bread completely covered but also a bit absorbed into the center.

The heat: I reccomend cooking this on medium heat/low heat. If you use high heat you could burn the edged of the toast and have the center a bit raw.

Caramelizing: When I was reading about this recipe, I found a one that said caramelizing makes it taste better and have better texture. And indeed it does! Add some sugar before flipping and that makes it caramelize a bit giving it an extra crunch.

EQUIPMENT:

Bowl: One bowl big enough to fit the slices of bread comfortably. I used a medium bowl.

Fork or whisk: To mix the eggs with the milk and seasonings.

Spatula: Used to flip the french toast when cooking.

Cup measures: Measure all your ingredients before you start!

Skillet: Big enough to fit the entire toast!

Knife: To cut out the pieces of butter you will use for the heated skillet.

Yield: 3 BIG slices of bread
