THE CLASSIC GUACAMOLE RECIPE YOU NEED!
I love avocados. I like to have them on anything really. Salads, sandwiches, burgers, on toast and most of all classic guacamole. I’ve ordered mexican food just to have guac, many times before.
Looking up the different types of recipes I realized that, it’s fairly simple to make. I was so happy when I realized it because instead of ordering a whole meal because I feel like having guacamole, I can make my own in ten minutes.
THE BASIC PARTS OF A CLASSIC GUACAMOLE:
Starting with the basic of basics, avocados. I feel like this fruit/ vegetable has gotten so much good press lately. Everything comes with avocados now a days. I love that! Aside from being delicious they are so good for you.
I wanted to share a few tips on how to know if your avocados are ripe. First, slightly press the avocado and it should be a bit soft. Not too soft though, but enough so that you can slightly press it. After that, you can take out the small part on the top that is what connected the avocado to the plant. It comes out really easy! If, once taken out, you see green and its soft, you are good to go! On the other hand, if it’s brown get another one!
After choosing the perfect avocado, you have to season it. This is where you add anything you want to give it the flavor you are looking for. Always start with some salt and lemon juice. From there, you can add anything you like!
In this case, I decided to share a very classic guacamole recipe. Most of the time, guac has onions, tomato, some type of spice and cilantro. In this case, I dod not add anything spicy but only because I don’t really enjoy spicy foods. It depends on your personal preferences.
TIPS FOR THE PERFECT GUACAMOLE:
The avocado: Look for medium sized avocados, not too big but not too small either. If you are going to get a big avocado, I believe one is enough. On the other hand, if you are using baby avocados, the tiny tiny ones, you will need more than two.
Seasoning: To make sure all the ingredients combine flavors perfectly, try to make this recipe about an hour before serving. Finish mixing it in, cover the bowl or transfer it to a container and place it in the fridge for an hour. This makes the onions, tomato, lemon and salt combine with the avocado making it a perfect guac.
The veggies: Try to cut the veggies as small as possible without making a puree. The ides is to have everything mixed in and working together for a complete flavor, not big bites of onions or tomato.
EQUIPMENT:
Bowl: Start with a big bowl, this is where everything will come together.
Potato smasher: Or a fork. Whatever you find the most comfortable. You will use it to puree the avocado.
Cutting board: Use the knife you find the most comfortable as well, specially for onions. I find onions the hardest to chop without crying or making a mess. Aldo, use one to cut avocados in half.
Cup measures or kitchen scale: To weigh and measure all your ingredients.
Silicone spatula: Or spoon to measure everything and pour onto the bowl you will be serving.
Lemon squeezer: This is one of my favorite kitchen toys in the world. Place half of a lemon, squeeze and you are done!
