PROVOLONE AND BEEF CROSTINI

PROVOLONE AND BEEF CROSTINI

What is a Crostini? Let’s start there.

The crostini is basically a slice of baguette, toasted, with any ingredient you can think of on top. That depends on what you like. Unlike the bruschetta, the crostini doesn’t need garlic on the toast. Like I said before, crostini can be made with anything you like! Vegetables, cheeses, meats, sauces, whatever you can think of!

A few weeks ago, I made a sandwich night at home with my family and it was a complete success. Now, with those sandwiches in mind and the holidays coming up I changed a few things and these beauties came up! Beautiful beef, provolone and caramelized onion crostinis.

I love finger food. I love charcuterie boards and tiny bite sized food that you can combine to make a meal. Add a glass of wine ( or a few) and I’m set for the night.

The secret to this crostini recipe is slicing the beef as thin as you can. The rest, is quick and easy to make.

EQUIPMENT:

Bread Knife: Or a big knife that makes cutting the baguette easy. You don’t want to squeeze it so much.

Pan: I like toasting the tiny slices of bread using a pan on a stovetop. You can toast them in your oven, toaster, or on the grill! Whatever you prefer the most, it doesn’t change the outcome!

Pot: For the caramelized onion recipe.

Wooden spoon: Like I always say, I find it best to use a wooden spoon for almost any type of recipe.

Oven: Once you toast your bread, add the meat and the provolone cheese place them in the oven for a few minutes to melt the cheese. Again, you can use your oven or grill. I don’t recommend using the microwave because it sometimes changes the texture.

Baking sheet: To heat up the crostini!

TIPS:

Beef: Remember, slice the meat as thin as you can. The crostini should be easy to bite and eat. I like the actual meat flavor, so I don’t tend to go overboard with the seasonings on the meat for this recipe. A bit of salt and pepper will do the trick.

Cheese: Provolone is pretty easy to find and if you can find a sliced version of it great! I used the grilling version that comes in a circle with a few spices. This ingredients should also be sliced thinly so that they melt quickly.

Onions: After heating up the cheese and meat, use a small spoon to place the caramelized onions on top before serving.

Yield: 20 crostini
