PEANUT BUTTER SPIDER COOKIES

PEANUT BUTTER SPIDER COOKIES

When I was little, my family always did halloween. I mean, as soon as october came over, we would look for costumes, make up and accessories for halloween at school. My grandmother grew up in the states and took a few traditions to our family. Halloween was always just that, dressing up, having fun and eating as much candy as we could.

My grandma always dressed up as a good witch. She dressed up in colorful clothes, wore a huge hat and decorated a broom with so many colors and fabrics it was so pretty every year. In school, every kid from K4 all the way to 6th grade could dress up and the day started with a parade. My granda (she owns the school) led the parade with blasting music!

With that amazing memory in my ming, I wanted to make SOMETHING halloween-y.

These cookies start off with a peanut butter cookie base, a pretty easy recipe and a fun spider decoration that makes it fun and perfect for halloween.

EQUIPMENT:

Bowl: A couple of bowls for the actual dough and then a couple more to melt the chocolates.

Mixer: Creaming the butter with sugar is made a lot easier with a mixer! It can be done with a hand mixer as well, it just takes a bit more time.

Measuring cups: Cup and tablespoon measures for all the ingredients.

Pipping bags: If you don’t have these, any type of bag works fine, just cut the tip off and start growing those tiny spider legs.

Cookie sheet: Give the cookies a little room to grow, give them enough space in-between each other.

Parchment paper: So the cookies don’t stick to the baking sheet.

TIPS:

The legs: To make drawing the legs easier, draw an (*) before adding the peanut butter cup on top. This makes the legs look symmetrical and the peanut butter cup stick to the cookie.

Melting the chocolate: The easiest way to melt chocolate without burning it is by heating up some water. Once this boils, turn off the heat and place the bowl with the chocolate on top of the hot water. The heat of the water will slowly melt your chocolate. Another way to do this is by using the microwave. Place the bowl for 20 seconds, take out and stir. Repeat until melted.

The body: For the body of the tiny spiders, I used peanut butter cups. You can use any type of chocolate that will stand on the cookie and has enough space to draw the eyes.

Have fun!: It doesn’t have to be perfect, just cute and fun! So don’t worry if your lines aren’t straight or If the eyes look silly.
