CHRISTMAS SPRINKLE SUGAR COOKIES

CHRISTMAS SPRINKLE SUGAR COOKIES

As a little kid did you leave cookies for Santa? If you did, the first thing on December 25th was running down to see if Santa ate the cookies and drank the milk you left? Well, I love that silly tradition. I don’t really remember if we did it as much at home but I think its so much fun and it’s cute seeing the kids and their excitement.

Part of the excitement is actually making the cookies for Santa. You can make making the cookies a fun and exciting family activity.

My Mamanch ( My grandma) makes a cookie basket every year around the holidays. I have 3 sisters and my mom and dad all in the same house, six cookie loving people. The baskets were distributed one per family and maybe if there were any left over after all the baskets were sent we got a few extras. Like I said, six cookie loving people in my house. The basket was barely in my house and we were all on top of it looking for our favorites. Sugar cookies, chocolate, gingerbread, an amazing holiday mix.

These are the flavors that make me feel like we are finally around the holidays.

What is better than making stuff with the people you love the most? Creating new traditions, honoring the old ones, having fun and having something delicious to eat afterwards.

This, is a simple and easy sugar cookie recipe. You make the dough in a few minutes and then add a few red, white and green sprinkles to make it christmas-y. The great thing about this specific cookie decoration is that besides from being easy to make and not time consuming, you can make it into anything you want. Halloween cookies? Use orange, purple and black sprinkles. Cookies for a girl’s birthday? Use pink, light purple and light blue ones. And so on! It even looks pretty without any sprinkles, just a simple sugar cookie.

EQUIPMENT:

Bowls: For the ingredients use a few small and medium sized bowls. Use a big bowl or the bowl of your stand mixer for the entire dough.

Plate: Use a plate for the sprinkles, or a big bowl. I find it easier to completely cover the dough with sprinkles in a plate or big bowl so that they don’t fall over and you have space to actually move.

Mixer: I have a stand mixer and use the flat beater for this type of recipes. If you do not own one of these, use a normal mixer for the first few steps and then mix by hand with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula.

Baking sheet: These cookies tend to stretch a bit to the sides so make sure you place them with some space in between them.

Silat or parchment paper: You don’t want your cookies to stick to the baking sheet. Use a sheet of parchment paper so that doesn’t happen! If you forget to get any of these two options, you can use butter!

TIPS:

Cooling: Before placing the cookies in the oven, and once they are covered in sprinkles, let the cookie dough balls rest in the fridge for 30 minutes. This makes them keep their shape a bit more.

Sprinkles: I used little sticks, if you want you can use circles, tiny trees, anything you want or find!

Baking: Bake the cookies until they are barely cooked so that they come out soft and fluffy.

Have fun!: This is a pretty simple and easy recipe to make! So, have fun doing it! Bake with the little kids at home, have a fun night of baking and drinks with friends. Have fun!
