BRIE & SERRANO HAM SANDWICHES
I consider myself a FAN of any kind of sandwich there is. There are so many different combinations of bread and ingredients, you can never get bored. Take the bread for example, there’s baguette, ciabatta, regular sandwich bread, cheese breads, brioche, the list is endless.
After choosing the bread, you start with the rest of the ingredients. So many cheeses, meats, vegetables, sauces and condiments that together make for the perfect combination.
I told you I’m a fan.
A few nights ago me and my family decided to have a sandwich and wine night at home. I bought all the ingredients for three different types and got in the kitchen. The idea was to have a few sandwiches ready and then have all the ingredients on the table as well so everyone could make their own. The dinner “party” was a SUCCESS! Everyone ate so much and we had an amazing time. Add a few chips or fries on the side and you are set my friend.
This is a fancy version of the classic ham and cheese sandwich we all know.
THE INGREDIENTS:
The Bread: For this recipe I chose the gorgeous baguette. Toast it a bit more in the oven and you have a perfect crispy on the outside soft on the inside baguette.
Butter: So, for this part, use regular butter with or without salt. If you get the butter without salt, add a bit when mixing it with the other ingredients. Soften the butter and add finely chopped chives and garlic. Let it rest for a few minutes so the flavors really mix in and it’s ready!
Ham: For this recipe, I decided to use Serrano ham. It has a strong flavor and its particularly salty so it combines well with the other ingredients.
Cheese: Just like the ham, brie cheese has a bit of flavor and its so soft! I am in love with brie cheese, I want to put in on everything.
Sun dried tomatoes: The tomatoes I found were sun dried but with a bit of basil and in olive oil! Absolutely delicious! You can use the ones you like the most.
Arugula: This ingredients is not absolutely necessary but I really liked how it turned out. It complements the sandwich perfectly and I always want to add a bit of color to my food.
LET’S MAKE IT: For every sandwich you’ll need 3 inch piece of baguette, two slices of ham, three or four pieces of brie. This depends on how big you cut them, make sure you fill the space. Two or three sundries tomatoes and the amount of arugula you like! I added a lot! Also, each sandwich has around a tablespoon of butter, spread between both pieces.
EQUIPMENT:
Okay, another thing I love about sandwiches. You hardly make any messes. A plate, a couple of knives and you are DONE! No hour long cleaning session after you eat.
Knives: A couple of knives to slice the bread in half, the cheese and for chopping garlic and chives.
Spoon: Or a fork, whatever you feel the most comfortable with, to mix the butter.
Bowl: A small bowl for the butter.
Plates: A few plates, depending on how many sandwiches you make!
That’s it! Pour yourself some wine and make this gorgeous sandwich for dinner tonight!
